Contains the two holiest sites in Christianity: the site where Jesus was crucified (Calvary) and the empty tomb where He was buried and resurrected.

History

Originally built by Emperor Constantine in 335 AD, the church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. It is now jointly controlled by several Christian denominations through a complex agreement called the Status Quo of 1757.

Significance

Venerated as the site of Jesus Christ's crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.
