History
Originally built by Emperor Constantine in 335 AD, the church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. It is now jointly controlled by several Christian denominations through a complex agreement called the Status Quo of 1757.
Significance
Venerated as the site of Jesus Christ's crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.
